I watched and filmed the incident, as the larger alligator got the small one's head its jaws and crushed it like an egg, finally starting to swallow the smaller alligator. The huge gator then retreated with its prey into the deep water and subsequently disappeared.
Newcomers to Florida who stop and feed alligators in the wild, or who feed alligators that inhabit ponds, adjacent to their homes, have no idea of the danger this presents.

The alligators develop no fear of people, and they create situations that put their pets and small children in danger. An alligator is a reptile that can't distinguish its prey when it lies in wait, hidden beneath the water with only its nose and eyes protruding. With the speed and agility that can only be witnessed, it can catch its prey in the blink of an eye. A large alligator only needs to feed once every few weeks and is not particular what it chooses to eat.
