In Display

Are there other birds that display this peculiar method of feeding? Perhaps the least bittern's near relative, the larger American bittern has similar feeding habits, but I've never been fortunate enough to observe them

Don't be disappointed when your first attempt to locate least bitterns ends in failure. I've concluded that for every bittern I see, there are three more that I've overlooked. Many times it's not until I've detected movement, that I finally see one nestled in its hideaway in the reeds. There are times, after unsuccessfully looking for these little birds, that I feel the need to retake Photography 101, when we studied the "The Art of Seeing."

The least bittern is another of God's gifts which we can observe; enjoy and be truly amazed. Let's appreciate these little birds, along with other beautiful things with which we have been blessed, and protect them from future destruction.
